Our students know the importance of each of our Student Learner Profiles that prepare them to be world citizens of integrity. Those profiles complement an excellent academic program, to develop skills that meet the challenges of the 21st Century. Japanese International School Hong Kong (JIS) was established in August 1997 with a large school campus opened in Tai Po, Hong Kong with an international section and a Japanese section to the school. Twenty years later the school is going from strength to strength offering both Japanese and international families an excellent educational experience for their children. The international section community is delightfully small; around 170 students, allowing for a very intimate, caring, community environment in which staff, students and parents are working together to achieve dynamic goals for learning and development. Our students travel from a wide variety of residential areas of Hong Kong to enjoy our spacious, well equipped campus on the edge of a large country park in Tai Po district, New Territories, Hong Kong.
Merit-based financial awards are given to gifted students in both academic and extracurricular activities. These came in the form of scholarship and bursaries, which are available starting in Year 6. From reception to Year 6, homeroom is headed by two teaching partners — a native Mandarin speaker and a native English speaker — to plan and facilitate student learning in all subjects as a dual-language learner. The secondary school programme from Years 7 to 9 teaches the MYP, after which in Years 10 and 11, students will be following a school-developed assessment criterion. Developing a passion for learning
The Nord Anglia International School Hong Kong (NAIS) opened in September 2014 and offers an all-through education for students aged 3-18, with specialist teachers in Music, Art, Drama, PE and Mandarin from the very start of a child’s educational journey. We want them to be the best they can be and we encourage them to “Be Ambitious”, reflecting our school’s philosophy. This means we support each student to progress further than they thought possible, achieving more academically, personally and socially – all of which are equally important. Each school differs in its requirements, with some accepting applications from birth and others only a year or two before intended entry. Priority admissions may be given to alumni, siblings of existing parents, or debenture holders. Debentures, which range from hundreds of thousands to millions in Hong Kong Dollar, can offer advantages but should be reviewed carefully. Hong Kong International School (HKIS) is a co-educational private international school in Hong Kong with campuses in Tai Tam and Repulse Bay, serving students from Reception 1 to Grade 12. The Repulse Bay campus houses the Lower and Upper Primary Divisions, while Tai Tam houses the Middle and High School Divisions. The High School band also travels to various countries for the APAC Festival, where students work with composers such as Robert W. Smith to put on a full-length concert in a few days. Students in Years 7, 8, and 9 study English, Mathematics, Second-Language, Science, Humanities, Design Technology, Arts, Computer Science, and Physical Education. Years 10 and 11 will complete their choice of subjects as per the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examinations. There are also options to complete a Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC) Extended Diploma in the student’s last two years at DBIS. Around a third of these schools are British schools and most of them are International Baccalaureate (IB) schools.
HKIS' High School has an extensive fine arts program, offering numerous the performing and visual arts courses. At least one arts credit is required for graduation, with at least one half-credit course in performance/studio arts and, if only the minimum requirement is met, a one half-credit fine arts survey course. In the Primary School section, the traditionally enclosed classrooms with corridors merge together in a series of large open plan spaces called Villas, each with 125 pupils in the same age group.
We have always wanted to make sure that our 3 boys have the best possible experience living abroad and that our travels have a positive impact on their education. Students in both High School and Middle School can also participate in school plays and musicals, both backstage and onstage. In the past three years alone, HKIS' HS and MS have produced many shows, including Into the Woods Jr., The Apple Tree, Aida, The Crucible, Picasso at the Lapin Agile, Thoroughly Modern Millie Jr., and The Bald Soprano. In 2005, the High School Wind Ensemble earned first place at the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival.
